It's looking like driving a pre production C8 is a dangerous job. Last week the 2 speeding engineers now someone street parks one and this happens.

Well, let’s keep our eyes peeled, see who starts rolling around town on C8 wheels...

Apparently GM doesn’t put locking lugs on prepro cars?

Locking lugs only stop crimes of convenience.

I already checked the local craigslist.

They would’ve stopped this crime.

Can’t believe anyone wanted those ugly things. Usually OEM wheels look best IMO, but Chevy really made sure the C8's stock wheels looked as close as possible to the cheap, shitty aftermarket wheels that are displayed in the windows of your local Discount Tire.
Of course, considering the designs of their lineup in general, it’s pretty fitting.

Roads ? Hell we don't need wheels.

That’s going to be expensive.
![]() 01/23/2020 at 13:17 |

But like what are they going to do with those since the C8 isn’t out yet
![]() 01/23/2020 at 13:19 |

there aren’t that many different security nuts out there; “professionals” will just have a bunch of keys on hand and find the one that works.

a few months ago we got in to work one morning and found 13 or so test vehicles missing wheels. Mostly the Navigators and Aviators.
![]() 01/23/2020 at 13:21 |

How would locking lugs not have stopped this?
![]() 01/23/2020 at 13:26 |

Sell the rubber then sell the rims to the local scrapper I guess.
Or it’s a weird gangland scavenger hunt.

Wheel locks are made in a dozen or so unique patterns. They sell kits online which will get you every key for a wheel lock manufacturer. If they want a specific set of wheels a wheel lock means nothing to a thief. Wheel locks only discourage thieves who are simply looking for something to steal with minimum effort.

As they say “Locks only keep out honest people”
![]() 01/23/2020 at 13:53 |

Why don’t they put lowjack/ onStar in in the TPM sensors.

or it’s like we’re being chased by a bear. I don’t have to out run the bear, I just have to out run you.

I wish governments would remember that when writing new restrictions on items that are legal to own to “ cut down on crime”
Laws only deter the law- abiding.

Or a piece of pipe or something that can fit over the lock, stomp on it, and break the stud off in the lock, or use an extraction socket and torque to twist the stud to break it.

It is super easy to get past a locking lug nut. Just hammer a heavy duty socket onto it and turn . Done.
![]() 01/23/2020 at 14:16 |
|
You dont even need to do that. You can hammer a heavy duty socket over the locking nut and just turn.
![]() 01/23/2020 at 14:17 |

Ha mmer socket onto locking nut. Turn nut. Take wheel.
I had to do this with a car I bought. Previous owner didn't include the key. It only took a few whacks of my hammer on a deep impact socket before it was nice and snug on that locking nut. Then I just unscrewed the nut. Done

Is that a (very good) shop? Studs and not bolts on the C8?
![]() 01/23/2020 at 14:24 |

Kinda surprised it has studs instead of bolts.

Don’t know but it made it’s way to C&D

yeah that’ s where I grabbed the ‘hi-res’ version of the picture, which is really low res!

We’re we expecting bolts? Studs are far superior in my opinion.
![]() 01/23/2020 at 14:40 |

I thought only VW did bolts.
![]() 01/23/2020 at 14:49 |

From Chevy I was expecting bolts.
M ultiple sites say “5x120mm Bolt Pattern”.... but the Chevy configurator does indeed show nuts.
The locks have a “ Computer generated key design allows for an infinite number of key patterns”.
![]() 01/23/2020 at 14:51 |

That explains it...research shows it’s a German thing. Both my Porsche and VW (and the two cars before that) all had bolts!
![]() 01/23/2020 at 15:13 |
|
Bolt pattern is just the generic term used to describe the hole pattern in a wheel. From my experience lug bolts are mostly a German thing, I’m not familiar at all with Chevys though so they may have also used bolts at some point.
![]() 01/23/2020 at 15:14 |

I was being glib in my replies but the fact is that there are tools available to easily remove any locking lugs. The pro’s don’ t care if they have locking lugs or not...it just means 1 extra tool.

What’s the point of McGards if any schmuck can get their mitts on the keys?

You may ha ve already known this, but there is video. So much for my Photoshop theory!

“Bolt pattern” doesn’t indicate if it’s stud or bolt, that’s how all hubs are described, even if it is wrong.
![]() 01/23/2020 at 17:43 |

Thats the point....EVE RY schmuck has a tire iron. Not every schmuck has the specialized tools to remove a lock lug (but some do)

Looks like a Saskatchewan special edition. (up on blocks from the factory, just needs a wrong colour door. )

Well it is in Detroit technically.

Bolts is an Euro thing. All my previous cars had lugs, until I got my BMW.
